Episode 1 — The Threshold

A scarred stray tears through the marketplace. Dat watches from the edge of the square — the dog is his father, reborn as a beast. A whimper stops them both.

EXT. VALLEY MARKETPLACE — DAY

A dusty, sun-bleached valley community. Ramshackle

mud-brick walls, rusted tin roofs, and narrow dirt

paths baking under a glaring sun.

A mangy, deeply scarred stray dog tears into a

sun-baked marketplace square, snarling, foaming at

the mouth, and snapping aggressively at a scattering

of stray chickens.

THE SON stands quietly at the edge of the square, a

worn travel pack over his shoulder, holding a simple

leather lead and iron leash.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, deadpan, tired

"Yep, that's my dad. Spent his whole life taking

whatever he wants by force... only to end up a dog

growling at trash in an open market."

A quick, hard cut flashes to a brief memory of the

human father in his past days: standing tall,

cold-eyed, slamming a heavy ledger down on a wooden

table, turning his back on people whose trust he

broke. Cut immediately back to the filthy hound

snapping at its own shadow.

The stray dog suddenly stops snarling. It sniffs the

dry air, locks eyes with the young man, and lets out

a pathetic, high-pitched whimper — a brief, shattering

flash of human recognition behind the beast's wild eyes.

The son adjusts his travel pack, steps forward, and

holds out the leather lead, walking directly into the

path of the snapping hound.

FADE OUT.

Episode 2 — The Ascent

The climb. The dog digs in and pulls back down the slope; on a crumbling ledge Dat dives into the dirt and hauls him back by the lead.

EXT. MOUNTAIN TRAIL — DAY

The steep, bone-dry dirt trail winds away from the

valley floor straight up into the jagged, mist-shrouded

mountain peaks.

The son trudges upward, boots kicking up dust, holding

the leather lead. Behind him, the dog digs its paws

into the dirt, planting its weight, snarling, and

trying to pull backward down the slope.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, out of breath

"Luật thứ nhất khi kéo một bạo chúa leo núi thánh: ổng

ghét đi đường dốc. Luật thứ hai: từ đây lên tới đỉnh,

ổng chưa ngừng cắn cái tay tui lần nào."

(Rule one of dragging a tyrant up a holy mountain: he

hates the climb. Rule two: from here to the summit, he

hasn't stopped trying to bite my hand.)

The son stops to catch his breath against a weather-beaten

boulder. A jagged memory overlay flashes: the human father

sitting in a dim room, screaming at a younger version of

the son for showing weakness. Back in the present, the dog

bares its teeth — the exact same temper, trapped in a

beast's frame.

A sudden gust of mountain wind kicks up loose gravel.

The trail crumbles under the dog's paws; it loses its

footing and slips over the edge of a narrow ledge,

yelping as it dangles by the lead.

The son dives forward, slamming his chest into the

dirt, his fingers gripping the strap with white-knuckled

force. He strains, veins popping in his forearms, slowly

hauling the thrashing hound back onto solid earth.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE):

"...nhưng nhớ lại lý do vì sao mình không muốn ổng rơi

xuống vực." (...it's remembering why I don't want him

to fall.)

FADE OUT.

Episode 3 — The Broken Mirror

At the gate the dog hits an invisible barrier. In the shrine basin the water shows the father's face, not the dog's — and Dat unties the lead and sits down to wait.

EXT. SHRINE PLATEAU — DAY

The high-altitude plateau. An ancient, weathered timber

gate carved with fading symbols of the Dharma wheel is

half-swallowed by creeping mountain vines.

The dog stops dead in its tracks, fur standing straight

up, whimpering and violently thrashing against the leash

as if hitting an invisible barrier. A low, vibrating hum

emanates from the gate, accompanied by the steady

dripping of water from mossy eaves.

Beside the gate sits a still stone basin of mountain

spring water. The son drags the fighting dog toward it,

forcing its head down.

Instead of a dog's reflection, the rippling water flashes

the face of the human father — scowling, consumed by old

grudges. The dog snaps at its own reflection, tearing up

the water in a blind rage.

The invisible barrier flares with a sharp golden light.

The shockwave knocks the son backward onto the dirt,

dropping the leash.

Instead of grabbing the leash to run, he unties the

leather strap completely, drops it to the dirt, and sits

cross-legged right on the threshold, turning his back to

the gate to face the beast.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, quiet

Chắc mình phải đợi ngoài này trong giá rét vậy.

(Guess we wait out here in the cold.)

FADE OUT.

Episode 4 — The Days of Stone and Chant

Four days on cold stone. Frost, chanting, and waiting — until the dog crawls across the ice and rests its head on Dat's knee, and the shrine doors open on their own.

EXT. SHRINE PLATEAU — CONTINUOUS (MONTAGE) / NIGHT

A timelapse of the high-altitude courtyard across multiple

grueling days. Sunsets bleed into freezing sunrises; frost

coats the timber gate, melts into slush, and freezes over

again.

The son sits cross-legged on the stone, his face gaunt,

lips cracked, unmoving. A few feet away, the stray dog

mirrors him, curled tight, shivering violently.

SUPERIMPOSED VISUALS: semi-transparent silhouettes of robed

monks sitting in absolute stillness inside shadowed monastery

halls fade in and out, their lips moving in unison to an

unseen, hypnotic chant echoing through the thin air.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, teeth chattering, quiet

"Mấy cuốn sách cổ bảo nghiệp chướng phải trả qua nhiều kiếp.

Tui với ổng chỉ xin bốn ngày. Bốn ngày trên nền đá lạnh, nghe

tiếng tụng kinh xuyên qua giá buốt để lọc sạch những oán hận cũ."

(The ancient books say karma takes lifetimes to clear. We

settled for four days...)

Starved of safety and stripped of its wild aggression, the

animal whimpers, dragging its shivering body closer across

the frost until its head rests directly against the son's

knee. The armor finally cracks — not because it was beaten,

but because it stopped fighting.

EXT. SHRINE PLATEAU - NIGHT

Deep in the freezing night, the dog opens its dark, heavy

eyes. A single, distinct drop of liquid wells up in the

beast's eye and freezes instantly in the moonlight.

The chanting cuts out entirely, replaced by a single,

resonant, lingering gong. The biting wind stops dead. The

heavy wooden shrine doors behind them slowly creak open on

their own, spilling warm, golden light across the courtyard.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, soft, steady

"Không có phép màu nào cả. Chỉ là một lão già bướng bỉnh,

khốn khổ... nhận ra con mình đủ thương để chết cóng cạnh một

con quái vật." (There was no magic. Just a proud, miserable

old man... realizing his son loved him enough to freeze to

death beside a monster.)

FADE OUT.

Episode 5 — The Return

Dawn. In the golden light the dog's form dissolves — and an old man takes his first breath on the stone. Dat pulls his father up, and brings him home.

EXT. SHRINE PLATEAU — DAWN

Warm, golden light pours from the open shrine doors,

washing over the frosted courtyard.

The dog lies motionless on the stone. Its fur begins to

shimmer, untangle, and dissolve under the ethereal glow.

A dense, swirling mist envelopes the form. The sharp snout

softens, paws stretch into human hands, and the animal

shape unravels.

An old man lies curled on the stone floor, gasping

violently for air as if taking his very first breath after

drowning. His eyes snap open — clear, wide, and entirely

human, stripped of all arrogance.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, soft

"Ổng không trở về như một vị vua. Ổng nhỏ bé, sợ hãi,

trống rỗng trước mọi tiếng ồn từng dùng để che đậy."

(He didn't come back a king. He came back small. Scared.

Empty of all the noise he used to hide behind.)

The father pushes himself up onto his trembling human

hands. He looks down at his own palms in disbelief, then

looks up to see his son kneeling beside him, shivering

and spent.

The father reaches out a hand to steady himself. The son

takes it, pulling him up.

They stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the summit, looking

out at the vast, sunlit valley below.

VOICEOVER (VIETNAMESE) — Dat, soft, resolved

Tui không cứu một vị vua. Tui chỉ đưa ổng về nhà.

(I didn't save a king. I just brought my old man home.)

The camera slowly pulls back into the bright morning sky.

FADE OUT.
